| This image | comment | The Book Pie created by Rooftop School librarian, Tamra Marshall,
represents the abundance of sustenance that is found in books. Books
feed our minds and souls like a slice of pie feeds our sweet tooth!
The Book pie was created by making miniature books made of old book
pages and paper ephemera. The crust and the lattice top was created by
using discarded library check-out cards. The signatures on the old
check-out cards bring back a nostalgia of a time when things moved
slower and were done by hand, just like a pie made from scratch.
For the exhibition, Flo invited 75 local, regional and national
artists to contribute art pies. All of these works created by Wong
and the invited artists share a common thread. They are narratives
which either address the deconstruction of a stereotype or tell the
stories of under-represented men and women whose lives and hard work
have made a significant yet unknown difference in this country. |
