This Swainson's hawk was in a tree across the road from Metzger Farm Open Space in Broomfield, Colorado.
These are medium sized hawks that hunt in grasslands. Insects such as grasshoppers are their preferred food, but they will also eat mammals and reptiles. They spend the spring and summer in Colorado and migrate to South America in the late summer.
