Sanborn Map of Clinton Kentucky
Alt-Text
Description
1905 Sanborn map about the buildings in the above photograph of a 1907 parade in Clinton. The pinkish red color meant a brick building, all the yellow structures were of wood, and the blue-gray stood for some sort of composite material. Among the information the numbers and letters inside a building would give us were how many stories tall it was, the type of roof, the placement of doors, and even the use of the structure. "D.G." stood for a "Dry Goods" store, a simple "S." just meant some kind of a store, a "D" was a private home or boarding house ("Dwelling) and so forth. Note that there were two banks in Clinton.
