Alt-Text
Explorer, mountaineer, social entrepreneur and technologist Silvia Vasquez-Lavado receives one blue marble.
Description
Gratitude for an inspired leader - In 2014, Silvia Vasquez-Lavado was among the mentors invited for tea at the Fairmont with the Friends of the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women to celebrate Mother's Day with San Francisco First Lady Anita Lee and girls who one day will influence the world. Silvia was leaving in the morning to climb Denali. She was in the process of climbing the "seven summits" the highest mountains on each of the continents, hoping to raise awareness for girls (and boys) who have been victims of sexual abuse. In 2014, Silvia launched Courageous Girls, a nonprofit that helps survivors of sexual abuse and trafficking with opportunities to find their strength and cultivate their voice by demonstrating their physical strength. By 2019, she was one of the few women in the world who have completed the ?Eight Summits,? the eight highest mountains in the seven continents.
