Description
Mixed media: Paper, gouache, cutout postcards and photographs, musical ornaments, confetti.

When Flo Oy Wong had her 75th birthday celebration, she requested her artist friends to make a pie or two for her exhibition, “Flo Oy Wong: The Whole Pie,” at the Luggage Store Gallery. Nancy Hom created two - a “pizza” pie in honor of Rasselas, the club she used to hang out at in the Fillmore, using cutouts of photos of the people at the club and little music ornaments. Rasselas closed that year.

Nancy also made a Chinese Opera pie in honor of Bob's father and the kunqu opera club, using photos of Beijing opera stars that Bob took for his project, “Unsung Opera,” which she curated. Kunqu is the root of all Chinese opera.

For the exhibition, Flo invited 75 local, regional and national artists to contribute art pies.  All of these works created by Wong and the invited artists share a common thread.  They are narratives which either address the deconstruction of a stereotype or tell the stories of under-represented men and women whose lives and hard work have made a significant yet unknown difference in this country.
