Tom Sai Mun, entered the U.S. in 1923 as an infant. In China, his biological parents sold him to the people who eventually brought him to this country. As an adult, he bore the name Richard Tom and lived in San Francisco. However, he always felt that he was not a legitimate American because of his "paper son" status.
