In 1930, Wong Kwock Ling (Theodore Wong) entered the U.S. at the age of 13. He was accompanied by his mother and by an uncle who claimed to be his brother. Upon his release from Angel Island, he settled in Augusta, Georgia. In 1949, he moved to Oakland, California to open a grocery store.
