The rice sack flag pays tribute to my sister, Li Keng Wong, who emigrated from China in 1933 with my mother, Gee Suey Ting. Because my mother entered the U.S. under a false identity as my father's sister, Li Keng had to identify our mother as her aunt during the Angel Island interrogation process in 1933. I took an AA rice sack and personalized it. Along the edge of the rice sack, I painted the meaning of the word interrogate. I wrote whoever provided the person's false identity. In the middle of the rice sack, I put the name of the person who came that year. The stars emerging from the flag represent the Chinese people who wanted to be U.S citizens.
