Jin Shueng Ngaw (Lily Wong) entered the U.S. as a "paper daughter" in 1940. Her husband searched for three years before he found "papers" that he could purchase for her entry. When she came, Lily left behind a young daughter in China in the care of her parents-in-law. She has since lived in San Francisco and is currently 78.
